What really is self-confidence?
Sir Webster could have written what self-confidence is. In layman’s term, self-confidence is ability plus courage, knowing
that you can do it because you have the skills. Children could define it as standing in front of their parents in school programs.
However, teen-agers are having difficulty in finding the right definition for it.
Younger people tend
to distrust themselves and some are just afraid of the only permanent thing in this world, which is change. Some people are
conscious about the problem they are experiencing most of them are not aware that they lack self-confidence, maybe because
of the fact that because they are having a hard time accepting their qualities and characteristics.
If it is really a negative
behavior, people should avoid it. How to avoid lack of self-confidence? What we can do is to check on our strengths and weaknesses.
Know what we can do then enhance them. Know what we cannot do then try hard to be able to do it. There is no harm in trying
anyway. If it’s too hard for you to do it, its okay to rest for a while but never give up. If you really want to do
something, you must have the drive to do it.
People must be open
for change and trust themselves for the achievement of their goals. Sometimes, we easily give up. We don’t even bother
to try. We don’t give a chance for ourselves to learn something new. We always think that bad things will happen if
we’ll try. We wait opportunities to come our way but it rarely happens. Most of all, we are afraid to get hurt and fail.
How could we learn if we do not experience pain and failure?
Lack of confidence is also an effect of knowing that there is someone to
back us up. We cling to the idea of others-that if we fail, there are people to catch us. Come to think of it, we are born
in this world alone. Ergo, we will die alone. We have to learn to struggle by ourselves. It is also an effect of being afraid
of rejection. We always think that other people might leave us or there’s no one to care. Or if someone has to leave,
we think that we can’t survive because they left us.
Too much pressure and problem affect one’s self-confidence too, because
the people around us expect too much that we can’t do or we are having a hard time to fulfill. Because of this, they
will keep on reminding us of our mistakes and losing our self-confidence in effect.
What people can do now is help them selves gain self-confidence. Have trust and faith in yourself. Never down
yourself. Try to make goals that you’re sure that you can reach. Give yourself a break. Reward yourself. You should
be aware of your rights as an individual. Think smart and think just. You are special in your own way. Learn to stand out
for yourself, let others know that you’re valuable also. Never think of the negative things that will happen. If you
think you’re right, stand and prove it. Never give up and learn to live by your own. So that when time comes that someone
has to leave you in moment of distress, you’ll survive and continue your life with great joy and contentment.
